University of Gour Banga is a state university, founded under the West Bengal Act XXVI of 2007. It is positioned in Malda district of West bengal and authorised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. Territorial jurisdiction of the University of Gour Banga distributes over 3 districts of North Bengal namely, Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur. The University of Gour Banga campus is in Malda, recently referred to as Gour.
